With Crisp air, golden leaves, and historic views, Bath is the perfect autumn escape! Whether you’re staying for the weekend or just exploring for the day, these scenic walks are the perfect way to experience the city’s charm on foot. Here are five autumnal walks that offer a moment of peace in the charming city of Bath.
- Bath Skyline Walk
Possibly the most famous walk in the area, the Bath Skyline is a 6-mile circular route offering panoramic views over the city. Managed by the National Trust, it winds through vibrant woodlands, open fields and hidden valleys. In autumn you can expect a crisp air and a kaleidoscope of colours – don’t forget your camera!
- Alexandra Park & Beechen Cliff
If you are looking for similar panoramic views of the city but are looking for a shorter alternative, this one is perfect for you! Just a short uphill walk from behind Bath Spa train station, Alexandra Park offers a peaceful green space and one of the best views over Bath. Top tip – the perfect spot for sunset and watch the golden light warm up Bath.

- The Avon Canal
If you fancy a flat, easy walk with canal boats and waterside pubs, the towpath is perfect. Start near Bath Spa station and walk towards Sydney Gardens or even further to Bathampton. Or you could walk up Pulteney Street and start in Sydney Gardens and either turn right towards bath station or left towards Bathampton. It’s peaceful escape at the heart of the city and especially pretty in Autumn with trees lining the path.
- Prior Park Landscape Garden
A 15-minute uphill walk or the number 2 bus from the train station, will lead you to this beautiful 18th century garden. Though this National Trust property has a small entrance fee (£11 for an adult, £5.50 for a child), it’s worth it for the iconic Palladian bridge and sweeping valley views. In autumn, the gardens come alive with colour, and fewer crowds mean more space to enjoy. - Rainbow Woods
A lesser-known gem, Rainbow Woods offers a woodland escape just beyond the city. You can connect it with the Skyline route or wander on its own through leafy trails and open fields. Great for spotting wildlife and snapping some peaceful autumn pics.
Autumn is one of the best times to explore Bath’s natural beauty. Whether you’re looking for full-day hikes or short sunset strolls, there’s a walk here for everyone. Staying at YMCA Bath Hostel? These routes are all easily accessible from our doorstep.
