As a UNESCO World Heritage City, there is plenty to do and see in the beautiful city of Bath without spending anything. Everywhere you look, Bath will reward you with stunning Georgian architecture in the famous Bath stone. There are plenty of green spaces to enjoy peaceful wanders, which you can follow up with free live music in the evening. Get out in Nature
- Hedgemead Park is beautiful green space tucked away passed the top of Walcot Street. Take a stroll through the trees and enjoy some unique views of the city.
- Victoria Park is the biggest green space in Bath, right in the city centre. You can catch glimpses of the Royal Crescent, visit the Treetop Cafe, and wander through the Botanical Gardens.
- Bath City Farm is the perfect escape for families. Meet the farm animals and explore the gardens, all for free. They have an excellent community run cafe as well, and great views of the city and surrounding areas.
- Bath Skyline Walk is a moderate 3-4 hour walk that takes you around the city via the surround tree-lined hills. You will experience fantastic views from various perspectives. You can dip in and out of the walk as you choose or do the whole thing in one go.
- The Kennet & Avon Canal runs through the centre of Bath alongside the Avon River. Walking along the canal is a peaceful way to see the city and an array of narrowboats. If you are up for a longer walk, you can follow the canal to neighbouring villages like Freshford, Avoncliff and Bradford on Avon. There are plenty of pubs and nice spots along the way and you can easily catch a train back to Bath.
Arts, culture and history
- The Victoria Art Galleryoverlooks the famous Pultney Bridge and Weir and boasts a great collection of artwork. It is a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and soak up some art.
- The Royal Crescent is an iconic landmark in Bath. The impressive Georgian architecture is a must-see and makes a great addition to a walk through Victoria Park. On a nice day, you can sit in front of the crescent with a picnic and a book, just like Jane Austen would have done!
- Abbey Square is nestled between the Abbey and the Roman Baths. It is a great spot to take in the stunning architecture and listen to the local buskers. There are also a few great ice cream and chocolate places nearby!
- Bath World Heritage Centre is a free and engaging way to discover the unique heritage of the city. If you are unsure of what you want to explore during your stay, this is a great place to start.
Music
- The Grapes, located on Westgate Street, has been serving Bath since 1792. It is a great spot for live music and energetic vibes. Every Wednesday night is a live jazz session, followed by tradition Irish music on a Thursday, DJ sessions on a Saturday, and more.
- The Bell Inn is a must visit in Bath. It is a community run pub with regular live music and a pizza bike! The live music is completely free and ranges from jazz to folk and more.
- Buskers can be found throughout the city, ranging from fiddle music, opera singing, guitar and drums. Have a stroll around and discover the local creativity.
