We’ve reached that time of year where the cold seeps in and January stretches on (and on). Keeping warm, active and engaged is important to stave off the seasonal blues. While a brisk walk outside can be refreshing, sometimes the weather is just too grim. At YMCA Bath Gym, we’ve got a range of classes that will suit anyone’s needs for getting active, warming up and connecting with our community.

- Cardio to get the blood pumping
Our cardio-focused classes are a great way to strengthen your heart health and boost your stamina. If the winter months make you feel lethargic and sluggish, try out Circuits, Cycling, or BoxFit for an uplifting challenge. These classes are designed to get your heart rate up, improve your endurance, and leave you feeling invigorated.
If you want a bit of energetic fun and great music, we also have Zumba classes every Wednesday. Zumba combines high-energy dance moves with a party-like atmosphere, making it an excellent way to stay active while having a blast.

- Strength training to warm the muscles
A great way to battle the cold is by engaging your muscles with some strength training. Strength-focused exercises not only build muscle but also help improve metabolism and overall resilience. If you want to sculpt a stronger, more resilient body, Pilates is the perfect choice for you. It’s a low-impact workout that targets core strength, flexibility, and posture.
Alternatively, you can challenge your core with a bit of Core & Stretch, which combines core strengthening with restorative stretches to leave you feeling balanced and limber. For those looking for a more dynamic workout, try out Kettlebells or some of our HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) options. These classes are excellent for building strength and endurance in a short, intense session.

- Mindfulness to lift the spirits
January is a wonderful time of year to reflect and recharge. After the bustle of December and the hype of New Year’s, it’s an opportunity to relax and nurture your soul. Our wide range of yoga classes provides the perfect environment to unwind and reconnect with yourself. Whether you’re looking to settle into deep relaxation, practice gentle yoga movements, or invigorate your body with power yoga, we’ve got something for everyone.
Mindful movement and breathing exercises not only help reduce stress but also improve focus and emotional wellbeing. These practices are especially beneficial during the winter months, offering a sense of calm and clarity to help you navigate the season.
Why Staying Active in Winter Matters
Physical activity in the winter can help combat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), improve sleep, and better support your immunity. Regular exercise boosts endorphins, enhances circulation, and helps regulate your body’s natural rhythms, making it a vital tool for maintaining both physical and mental health during the colder months.
At YMCA Bath Gym, we’re committed to helping you stay active, warm, and engaged throughout the winter. With our diverse range of classes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Join our community and start your wellbeing journey today!
