Secret Spots in Bath

Secret Spots in Bath

The city of Bath is full of well-known landmarks. From the Roman Baths to the Crescent, there is plenty to do and see. But there is more to Bath than meets the eye. Here we will tell you about some off-the beaten track spots and local favourites in our beautiful, historic city.

Sham Castle

If you are feeling adventurous, take a walk up to Sham Castle and take in some incredible views of the city. Start at the Holburne for a stroll through Sydney Gardens and make your way up to Sham Castle from there. The hint is in the name; Sham Castle is a folly built in 1762, made to look like a castle gate, turrets included!

Herschel Museum of Astronomy

Visit the very spot where Uranus was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel. Both William and his sister, Caroline Herschel, made several astronomical discoveries from this house in Bath. It is a true hidden gem for science lovers and anyone with an interest in Space. Herschel

Sugarcane Studio

This lovely award-winning patisserie in Bath combines French pastry with Asian flavours. It is a one-of-a-kind bakery well worth a visit, tucked away just behind Pultney Bridge. Botanical Gardens

Within the bustling city of Bath, there are plenty of green escapes. Hidden within Victoria Park is the Botanical Gardens, a green oasis that is free to stroll through. It feels like a true escape into nature.

Guildhall Market

Books, French cheese, hardware, haberdashery, delis, sweets and more. Bath Guildhall Market is full of independently run stalls with all sorts of things to explore. Walking into the market feels like stepping back in time. It is a true hidden gem in the centre of Bath.

The Bird of Prey Project

The Bird of Prey Project is a great, family friendly activity. If you’re looking for a unique, memorable experience, head over to Newton St. Loe and meet the birds of prey (Florence the Burrowing Owl is a favourite of mine). The centre shares its location with the Newton St. Loe farm shop, a great spot for a cream tea. You might even get to meet the local goats and pigs!

Rooted Cafe & Supper Rooms

Rooted is an excellent vegan and vegetarian restaurant a little way outside the centre of town. Here you’ll find a diverse, Indian-inspired menu. Rooted is a great spot for brunch with friends, followed by a walk up Chelsea Road to explore the unique shops.

The Sickle

If you find yourself strolling up Walcot Street, keep heading up until you come across The Sickle, a wonderful little cosy pub full of vibes. The beer and wine are hand-picked by the owner, along with music, all straight from his own record collection.
